Black pants / white shirt kinda reminds me of cater-waitering. Not that I ever did that, but I have totally been mistaken for wait staff when I’ve been under dressed at social functions. Back in the day (like a few years ago-ha) when I first hit the workforce, I didn’t own anything dressy and didn’t know how to plan appropriately. I thought black pants and a white shirt (with collar, not a t-shirt) would get me by without looking too silly. I found out I was wrong at a conference social, when I was asked to to bring another bottle of wine by a table full of Very Important People.
Awkward moments strung together by Slurpie runs. That is my life.

I always love black and white together but am always afraid I’ll look like the waitstaff. I would have been mortified in your situation!
