Have you seen this movie? It’s absolutely charming. I can see this being a positive self-love message for young girls, but it really is an adorable movie for adults, too. Promise. And I do love Christina Ricci- is she ever not awesome?

I loved the set design and costumes so much! Think Pushing Daisies or Amelie- whimsical, with saturated colors.

This got me thinking about great set design and how much that can influence a movie. I can watch a bad movie the whole way through so long as it’s pretty. My top ten all-time favorite visual movies, {in no order, just a list} are:

  1. Amelie
  2. Marie Antoinette {Yes, the movie was kind of awful. But so pretty!}
  3. Breakfast at Tiffany’s
  4. Big Fish
  5. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
  6. American Beauty
  7. Romeo + Juliet {The 1996 Baz Luhrman one}
  8. Edward Scissorhands
  9. Frida
  10. Factory Girl

What movies am I forgetting? Any others you can recommend to me?

  1. Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day also has some fabulous 1930s London design. The movie is ok, but the sets and costumes are divine. Also, Brideshead Revisited was a turrible movie, but the setting was fab. Same with Atonement… at least, the first part of it.

    1. Atonement… never really did much for me, sadly. I will check out the others- thanks Katie!

      I also left off The Darjeeling Limited. Great colors and patterns.

  2. I love your choices. Tim Burton can always be counted on for striking visuals, and I’m counting the days until Alice in Wonderland.
    I just watched the movie Ink yesterday – an indie film that has done tremendously well out of the theaters. It’s one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time… but I recommend watching it with a box of tissues. I’m not generally into tear-jerkers, but the writing kept this one from being too cliched and I found myself weeping for the last third of the movie…

    1. I’m very anxious for Tim Burton’s take on Alice in Wonderland as well. The costumes/makeup look phenomenal. I will have to check out Ink- thanks for the recommendation! I’m up for a tear-jerker.

  3. Just found your blog, and am loving it!

    The one movie that I adore for this very reason is Hero. It has Jet Li and Ziyi Zhang in it. I is very martial arts, I am out for revenge – prepare to die, but it so heavenly, dreamy, yummy, beautiful to watch.

    1. Thanks for stopping by!!! Do you have a link to swap?

      I will have to put that one on the queue, thanks for the suggestion. (:
