30 Before 30
In Feb. 2010, I posted a list of 30 things I will try to do before I’m thirty {6.21.2013}. Here’s my progress on that list, as I chip away at it!
Vacation somewhere tropical.Done! Hawaii in Jan of 2011.- Finish my Masters degree. In progress. I’m about halfway there.
Host a girls-night-in.Done! Sept. 2011.- Do at least one volunteer project, if not something on-going.
- Go to a FANTASTIC music festival.
- Purchase a really great article of designer clothing, or a pair of shoes. Even if it’s from Ebay. Even if I have to ration food to pay for it.
- Go snow-shoeing.
- Get a tattoo.
- Get a freelance writing/design gig going on the side, if just on a really small scale. Which means… a plan, a website and some promoting.
Make that bikini body happen and wear one… in public.I will probably never be satisfied, but I wore a bikini in Hawaii, and lived to tell the tale!- Buy a fabulously girly head-to-toe outfit and plan a fabulous day wearing it.
- Go to a wine-tasting.
Get totally glammed up and go dancing and clubbing all night.Done! Vegas 2010.Attempt snowboarding or skiing, just to say I finally have.Done! February 2010.- Pay off my student loans. In progress, but looking dismal by June 2013…
- Hike to an overnight camping destination.
- Learn to knit.
- Strive to find my style. Don’t purchase things I only *kind of* like. Buy things that are awesome. Make things. Thrift things and fix them up. Always in progress.
- Write my bucket list.
Buy a piece of art from a local artist.Done! Bought a small print by a local artist, Lisa Telling Kattenbraker, at SLC Art Festival 2010.- Grow my hair out as long as possible. In progress.
Take a dancing class. Belly dancing, hip hop… something. Done! I’ve been taking belly dancing. Started November 2011.- Take a road trip.
- Go to New York.
Go on a mega-hot date. Red lipstick for me, him looking spiffy, too.Done! Vegas 2012.- Find a charity to donate to yearly.
Go ice-skating.Done! December 2010.- Cook something that involves lighting it on fire.
Take a day off work, drive somewhere remote, and take photos.Done! My birthday, June 2010.Get a massage.Done!! Jan. 8, 2011. Totally inspired me to spend more time relaxing, stretching, and taking care of myself! My masseuse told me I was super knotted up from a desk job and in all the stress-holding places.

I just came across your blog on suggestion from a friend. I’m really keen on it. I really like the 30 things before 30 list. I am almost 30 (in 5 months) and have only one piece of advice (from experience). If I had to do it all over again, I would put the tattoo on the list of “things to wait until I am at least 30 to do”. I have 4 (technically) tattoos and never thought I would regret them. I sometimes regret at least 3 of them. They are not stupid or obnoxious, but I sometimes regret them. My undergraduate advisor used to say that there are 2 things you should wait until your 30′s to do, get a tattoo and get married. I’ve grown to realize that he was absolutely right.
I realize that my advice is unsolicited, but maybe you won’t mind.

Good luck with your list!
